Wonderful river bike tour from Lüneburg Heath to Bremen Vegesack on the Weser

The approximately 250-kilometre-long Wümme Cycle Path takes you on a circular route from the Lüneburg Heath through the natural and settlement areas of the North German Plain to the mouth of the Weser near Bremen-Vegesack.

The Wümme rises in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park, at the foot of the Wulfsberg. This small elevation is not directly on the Wümme cycle path, but below the village of Niederhaverbeck. From there, the Wümme initially makes its way through the wonderful heathland as a small stream. It gradually widens a little and winds its way as a small river through an extensive meadow landscape, some of which is protected. Near the artists' village of Fischerhude, it splits into a north, middle and south branch, which merge again near Borgfeld. In Ritterhude, the Wümme joins the Hamme and Lesum and flows into the Weser as a stately river only a little later.

Enjoy a varied North German landscape, shaped by the Wümme, with wonderful heathland, extensive moors, tranquil forests, lush meadows and fields, floodplains and dykes. In between, idyllic villages, charming small towns, the artists' village of Fischerhude and the "big wide world" of Bremen invite you to discover and linger. The Wümme Cycle Path takes you along the north and south routes, sometimes more and sometimes less close to the Wümme river.

Cyclists can cycle the entire circular route, but also just the north route or the south route of the Wümme Cycle Path. Numerous cross-connections also divide the cycle path into attractive individual sections, so that shorter day trips are also possible.
