He was popular, committed and had a significant influence on Peine's development: Honorary Mayor Gerhard Heinze.
The bronze bust on a marble plinth commemorates the honorary mayor of Peine, Gerhard Heinze. It was located in the anteroom of the large meeting room in the town hall from September 30, 1992 and moved to the town hall's citizens' office in August 2001. It was designed by sculptor Harald Stieding.
Heinze (28.2.1916 - 26.10.1997) was mayor of the town of Peine from 1972 to 1991 and was an extremely popular and committed head of the town.
The bust was financed by a private initiative and is intended to be a "symbol of 20 years of town history, during which Heinze significantly influenced the development of Peine as mayor". He was also involved in trade unions and various charitable institutions and associations. In 1982, he was awarded the Ring of Honor of the city of Peine and in 1986, he was awarded honorary citizenship. In 1991, he was also awarded the title of "Honorary Mayor of the City of Peine".
