Nine bronze books tell the story of the city. This one reports on the history and urban development measures on Hagenmarkt.
The Peiner Bronze Books are a bronze sculpture in the form of an open book on a stone plinth. The book at Hagenmarkt tells of the history and urban development measures of this region. It was designed by the artist Maximilian Stark and erected in 1990.
Here you can read: "Outside the medieval fortifications - ramparts and ditches - of the town of Peine were the marshy Hagewiesen. Around 1900, the Hagenmarkt was built according to the French urban planning model with a diameter of 100m and seven star-shaped streets leading to the square. The increase in population (1850: four thousand inhabitants - 1905: sixteen thousand inhabitants) made it necessary to expand the town. The 8000 square meter square was redesigned in 1985. Expansion costs: DM 1.5 million. The Hagenmarkt is used as a market and festival square."
