1,000-year-old half-timbered town on the Weser

Right in the middle - between the cities of Hanover and Bremen - lies the town of Nienburg directly on the Weser, the economic and cultural center on the Middle Weser. The heart of this historic town with a 1000-year history is the old town with its half-timbered facades, Renaissance façades and brickwork. The Nienburg Town Hall, a magnificent building from the Weser Renaissance period, is also located here. Nienburg's main church, a three-aisled hall church in the North German brick Gothic style, was consecrated in 1441. The 72 m high church tower, a neo-Gothic building, is the town's landmark and was built in 1896/97. The Stockturm is probably the oldest building in the town. It is the remains of the former moated castle of the Counts of Hoya. The tower was used as a prison; prisoners were "im Stock" here.

On Wednesday and Saturday mornings in particular, the town center is a hive of activity, as this is when"Europe's most beautiful weekly market" takes place. The market stalls sell flowers, fresh fruit and vegetables as well as sausage and cheese specialties from the region. The non-profit foundation "Lebendige Stadt" (Living City) has named the market in Nienburg the most beautiful weekly market in Europe for its variety, quality and green concept.

The town of Nienburg has been recognized by the state of Lower Saxony as a KinderFerienLand location. It has fulfilled numerous criteria that have to be met in order to be awarded the quality seal. The award serves as a reliable criterion to indicate the quality of the offer.
