Thomasburg's fieldstone church Peter and Paul: a jewel of the Neetze lowlands
The remarkable fieldstone church of Peter and Paul is located on the Kirchberg, a hill in the lowlands of the Neetze. Opposite is the old Thomasburg school, which today serves as a residential building.
The first documented mention of "Totimesborg" (Thomasburg) dates back to 1124. The church collapsed in 1643, but was immediately rebuilt.
At the beginning of the 20th century, in 1907/08, the Peter and Paul Church underwent extensive remodelling. A new entrance porch was built, the chancel was extended and an organ loft was installed. Thanks to generous donations, the altar, pulpit, baptismal font, lectern, sconces, organ and other furnishings were purchased.
Between 1990 and 1993, the church was thoroughly renovated and refurbished. Today it shines again in the colours of 1908.
