The large city of Salzgitter has two town halls for its citizens, the "smaller" of which is located directly on the market square in the historic district of Salzgitter-Bad.

A weekly market is held in front of the town hall on Wednesdays and Saturdays mornings. A carillon attached to the façade recalls the town's tradition as a mining town with the piece "Glück auf, der Steiger kommt" at 9.00, 12.00, 15.00 and 19.00 every day. Right next to the town hall is the district library with an integrated branch of the tourist information office.
